Dr. Joanna Collaton, (she/her)

Psychologist (Supervised Practice) - on leave until 2026

Dr. Joanna Collaton is a clinical psychologist (supervised practice) who works with children, adolescents, families, and adults. She completed her MA and PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Guelph, as well as an MPH from the University of Toronto. Joanna has worked and trained at hospitals, community mental health centres, school boards, and private practices including the Hospital for Sick Children, the Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. She has conducted and published research on women’s mental health including the impact of interpersonal and sexual violence, and created a novel model for how survivors of sexual violence may seek justice.

As part of her clinical practice, she integrates evidence-based therapies such as emotion-focused, attachment-based, and cognitive-behavioural/dialectical behavioural approaches. She works with a broad range of presenting concerns, including trauma, depression, anxiety, emotion regulation issues, disordered eating, school or work stress, perfectionism, and life transitions. Joanna believes in developing a strong and supportive relationship in the therapy process as a foundation for the client's growth and change. In addition to therapy, Joanna also completes comprehensive psychological assessments for clients looking for diagnostic clarity across areas of learning, attention, and mental health. In addition to her work at Step Stone, she is a staff psychologist at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).
